Solid Progress for NZIC
At the end of August, NZIC marked a key milestone with the arrival of a cement shipment from Vietnam to Lyttelton. The vessel Ken Hope, loaded in early August, delivered 30,000 tonnes of Slag and General Purpose (GP) cement, taking three weeks to reach New Zealand.
The shipment was unloaded in two stages, with half arriving at Lyttelton, followed by the remainder being sent down to Bluff to be dispatched from Freight Haulage at Clifton. NZIC has been operating from this site for a year now and have been managing a substantial part of the overall logistics, including carting the product from Port to store, storage and management support of dispatching deliveries to plants.
Earlier this year, NZIC moved into its official new Christchurchbased location at McAlpine Street, and employed two new staff to support its growing operations. The first load from this latest shipment was successfully dispatched from the new McAlpine Street site in August.
Looking ahead, civil works have commenced for NZIC's new cement storage facility, with completion anticipated by early 2025. This development is part of NZIC’s ongoing commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing operational capabilities to service the construction industry.
