Demolition in action

Ryal Bush Crushing It

In a significant development for Bluff's architectural landscape, the historic Club Hotel has been demolished by the skilled team from Ryal Bush Demolition. Over the course of four weeks, the team undertook the careful deconstruction of the former hotel right on SH1, with extensive preparation work occupying much of that period.

The decision to demolish the iconic structure was driven by safety concerns and economic feasibility. Originally a composite of four buildings, the over-century-old hotel had fallen into disrepair over the past two decades. Despite its Category Two Historic Places listing, the deteriorating condition posed a significant risk to public safety, particularly highlighted by fears of collapse during last year's Oyster Festival, causing its cancellation.

Owned by the trust that oversees the festival, the vacant hotel had become increasingly impractical to restore to modern safety standards. The demolition paves the way for future revitalisation efforts in Bluff, aligning with community efforts to preserve its rich history. Removing the former Club Hotel marks a new chapter in the town's story, aiding opportunities for development and community engagement.
