Our drivers locked in paying full attention

Driver Trainings a Success

Driver Trainings a Success

Another year, another round of upskilling for our team in the risks inherent to Spreading and Livestock management and cartage roles.

Termed winter training, this period aligns with quieter business months, allowing our drivers to step out of the trucks and into essential training. This ensures they're equipped with the right tools, knowledge, and reminders of role risks.

Dispatchers were included in spreader training, crucial for understanding the environments they dispatch drivers into and their corresponding skillsets.

Each course covers a variety of topics, with real-life incidents shared to help illustrate how it’s often the small, everyday tasks that can go wrong. Specifically, what becoming complacent, even if unintentional, can potentially lead to. The sessions are always completed with a practical sessions in the field as being hands on works best to compliment the days learnings.

Recent sessions also covered general freight training, including waste cartage, crane operations, stock food cartage, and bulk operations. With over 200 attendees across the Group and positive feedback from entities like NZ Police, it's evident that investing in health and safety pays off.

"We appreciate the invitation from HWR to present. It's impressive to see their commitment to keeping staff current with training. The level of engagement from your team was noteworthy. These sessions are vital for our CVST (Commercial Vehicle Safety Team), providing drivers and companies a deeper understanding of our work's importance. They also encourage dialogue on challenges and best practices, all aimed at ensuring everyone returns home safely each night. Seeing things from the 'other side of the windscreen' enriches our learning experience. Thank you again." Sergeant C J Sew Hoy

Groundspread NZ has also joined HWR as a facilitation partner to offer this training course industry-wide.

Led by Health & Safety Manager Phil Botting, the training's success grows annually, reflecting our commitment to the HWR Value of Get Home Safe.
