In a significant leap forward for the group’s environmental initiatives, CHANGE Fuel Technologies is pioneering the forefront in sustainable transport solutions. Born from HWR’s commitment to innovative transport technologies in early 2021, CHANGE’s venture is transforming the group’s existing diesel fleet with cutting-edge hydrogen dual-fuel technology.
The journey began with a simple yet ambitious vision: to develop a cost-effective solution for reducing carbon emissions in heavy transport. The company's innovative system, which allows conventional diesel trucks to operate on both hydrogen and diesel fuel, emerged from collaborative efforts with European specialists and New Zealand manufacturers. Each converted vehicle has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by an impressive 70 tonnes annually, offering a practical stepping stone toward greener transport solutions.
Since its inception in early 2021, Change Fuel Technologies has achieved remarkable milestones, including the deployment of the Southern Hemisphere's first dual-fuel truck in April 2023. The company's achievements haven't gone unnoticed, with recent recognition including the Innovation Award at the Southland Business Awards and the Hydrogen Transport Award at the NZ Hydrogen Awards.
In a world first, the company has successfully converted a concrete truck operating in Auckland to dual-fuel technology. With plans to convert 40 vehicles in the next year and a new hydrogen production facility set to open in Q1 2025, Change Fuel Technologies is rapidly expanding its reach.
